RPM Retail publishes a monthly Retail Pharmacy Sales Report - and the trend for 2021 has been difficult to gauge because of the COVID lockdown in March and April 2020 - which was preceded by an unprecedented peak in sales.
We have now compared May 2021 with May 2020 - and the trend is obvious. Retail pharmacy sales are up on last year but continue to languish well below the 2019 "normal" results due mainly to a huge -30% reduction in Coughs & Colds sales Vs 2 years ago.
There are significant localised effects in the main cities (especially Christchurch) due to the opening of discount pharmacy chains Chemist Warehouse and Bargain Chemist in these areas.
